Page Up! Up Up and Away!!

While driving tonight, my daughter reminded me to look up in the sky. It was a beautiful clear night and all the stars were out. The bright crescent moon only showed a small sliver at the bottom. We can almost see the sun on the other side of the moon. We stopped the car, opened the moon roof and looked up. At that moment, I imagined pressing the Page Up key and fly away into the stars. Sometimes I wish the Real World is like Second Life. Page Up! Up Up and Away!!!

Nian Gao Perfection

Well, I am up to version 1.21 of my nian gao recipe listed here.

My son got out of school early today due to the usual "teacher's conference day" and we ate the left overs from early this week for a quick after lunch snack. It was a little mushy and sticky after heating it up in the microwave, but it was yummy.

Eating a home cooked nian gao meal is definitely going down as one of life's little pleasures.

Iron-On T-Shirt Prints

I made bunch of iron-on T-shirt prints of our trip to Italy for my wife and kids today. It turned out pretty good. I also made a T-shirt with an Ubuntu logo for my son.

note to self: the iron-on paper does not work in a Color LaserJet printer, use the ink jet. I hope I didn't screw up the Color LaserJet.

My kids beat me in tennis, bowling, and baseball.

My kids had their portable Gameboys forever. They started with the Gameboy Advanced, then the SP, and they still play with their DS. I never thought we would buy a video game console. Most of the "good" games on the 360 or PS2/3 are just too violent for the kids.

I have been reading reviews on the Wii and last weekend Costco had the Wii on display. Well, the reviews are right. The Wii is a lot of fun for the family. My wife now has a sore shoulder from playing bowling for 2 hours with the kids. I am too spastic to hit the tennis ball and had everyone rolling on the floor laughing.

I need more practice.

x3200 Extension

It was 8:30 PM tonight when I finally finished my dictations in the office and was ready to go home. I was tired and hungry. It has been almost a week since I came back from my trip to Italy but I am still partially on Italy time- 9 hours ahead. As I was walking toward the door my beeper goes off. I glanced at the little display and noticed the dreaded x3200 ER extension. I put my briefcase down and called.

"Oh, thanks for calling," the ER doc replied.
"There is a patient here with diarrhea for 3 days and came in tonight with severe abdominal pain. The abdominal x-ray showed.."

"Wait, wait," I cut him off mid-sentence, "Are you looking for a cardiologist?"
"No... aren't you the general surgeon on-call tonight?" the ER doc replied.

"Well, I think you have the wrong guy. I am a cardiologist." I said it with a very cheerful voice and with a very large smile on my face.

Walking out of the office, I felt rejuvenated.

Napping in a car

I usually don't get a chance to ride in a car as a passenger. Everywhere we go as a family I am usually the driver.  Last week my wife was taking the kids to the mall and she drove. While sitting in the back seat, my kids and I dozed off.

Afterwards, my kids and I all agreed that napping in a car is probably one of the best sleep time we can experience. There is just something soothing about the noise and vibration that put us into an immediate state of relaxation.

I will definitely need to ride as a passenger more often.

Regina at Bonnaroo

I was not able to watch the live Webcast of her performance yesterday. However, with the magic of "computerology", I'm watching a video capture of it.

One word- SWEET!

The Green Thing

I was helping my daughter paint her school project. Don't ask me what it is. We paint it green.

Now my fingers are all green.
It was fun.

Hair Cuts

I cut my kids' hair today.

I'm definitely not, as they say on BRAVOtv, shear genius, but I think I do ok.

Well, I am a "professional."

Roses

A patient brought in some roses grown in her garden to the office today. The color was really beautiful and it smelled really nice. I'll have to remember to bring my camera to work tomorrow.

Real Love

Listening to Regina Spektor performing cover of "Real Love" by John Lennon. The song brings tears to my eyes. Well, they are happy tears :).

Dell's 800 Toll Free Number

I tried to call Dell Computer tonight and mistakenly dialed 800-886-3355 instead of 877-886-3355. :) ha, ha, it took me a while to explain to the operator that I do not want to talk to a "hot h**** girl."

Um.. three entries today. I am really stretching the limit here.

Home Depot Project

Okay, two entries in a day. Is it allowed?

I was on-call today but I was able to take off for a few hours and met my wife and kids at Home Depot to do the monthly kids wood working project. Today they made toy biplanes. I had fun making ... um ... I mean, my kids had fun making the project.

Remember, kids project at the first Saturdays of each month at your local Home Depot store.

Freshly washed car

My car dealer fixed my car today and because it took them so long to finish the work they completely detailed the car inside and out and gave me a full tank of gas to go. Now I am back to listening to Regina Spektor CDs in the car (to the dismay of my kids).

This entry is going to be my Life's Little Pleasures for today but my kids' Life's Little Annoyances- listening to Regina Spektor non-stop in the car :).

Food Again

My entry for Life's Little Pleasures today is another food item. Um... I may have to change the title of my blog.

I had a wonderful corned beef on rye with muster for lunch today. The pickle was wonderful too.

Chocolate covered strawberries

Ok, this blog is not suppose to be about food and I am not a big desert eater. However, it seems that many of life's little pleasures are about food.

My kids made some chocolate covered strawberries today. I was surprised that my son actually ate a few and I did too.

Birthday Cake

I had some birthday cake today. My wife gave me a very large piece. No, it was not my birthday.

I really do not like sweet stuff; however, the cake was yummmy.

Eating popcorn in a movie theater.

I took off from work early today and went to see a movie with my kids in a movie theater. I even ate some popcorn with *butter*. Somehow, popcorn just taste better in a movie theater.

It was fun.
